How do I add OMNY to my Apple Wallet?
- On your iPhone, open the Wallet app.
- Tap the Add button .
- Tap Transit Card to add a new transit card or tap Previous Card to add a transit card that you previously added to the Wallet app.
- Choose a transit card from the list, or search by location or card name.
Digital wallets on your smart phone, smart watch, and wearable are supported today, including Google Pay™, Apple Pay®, and more. If your bank card has a chip but is not contactless, you can still add it to your digital wallet on your smart device to make contactless fare payments.
You don't have to sign up or download an app to use OMNY; simply use your contactless credit or debit card, smartphone, wearable device, or OMNY card to tap and go. OMNY currently supports a full-fare, pay-per-ride option, with Reduced-Fare coming soon.

OMNY readers, which allow New Yorkers to "tap to pay" for their ride instead of swipe an iconic MetroCard, have officially been installed in every single subway station in NYC. And that means, the end of the MetroCard is near.
OMNY is the contactless fare payment system for public transportation in the New York region. Simply use your contactless credit or debit card, smart phone, wearable device, or an OMNY card to tap and go.
Since MetroCards are still available until the end of 2023, it may not be worth buying an OMNY card, which costs $4 more than a MetroCard. On the other hand, if you use a pay-per-ride MetroCard, you do not get to take advantage of the OMNY fare cap mentioned above.
Just tap your Apple or Android device against the reader and you're good to enter. "We are excited that anyone traveling within Manhattan can now pay their fare for subways and buses using OMNY," said Al Putre of OMNY.
Using Express Mode with Apple Pay.
- Open Wallet and select a payment card.

Do I have to unlock my phone to use OMNY?
Depending on your phone/watch settings, you might have to unlock the device before you can use it at the OMNY reader. On Apple Pay, I recommend you set up your card as a Transit Express card, which will allow you to tap your phone/watch without unlocking your device.

How long does OMNY last?
IF I USE A RELOADABLE OMNY CARD, HOW LONG IS THAT CARD GOOD FOR? The MTA said it wants to get out of the business of selling physical cards that expire after 18 months, which is the expiration time for MetroCards. The reloadable OMNY cards are thicker and will expire after seven years.
No, the cap only applies to a single payment method. You must use the same contactless credit or debit card, smart device, or OMNY card for each trip. In other words, each payment method builds toward its own unique cap.
To pay with an Android phone, simply unlock the handset and place it over the reader to initiate the transaction. Paying with Fitbit Pay is similar, just hold down the button on the left side of the watch, and your digital card will appear, but you may need to enter a pin code, depending on your Fitbit app's settings.

As noted the OMNY card has an expiration date printed on the back of the card after which the card becomes unusuable. Newly issued cards don't expire until 7 years from issuance. You can transfer any remaining value on the card to a new card up to two years after the expiration date.
